My engine warning light came on on my 2003 Honda Civic LX. The book says it's an emissions malfunction. How long can I drive with this light on?

Some people drive with it always on, and with no problems. However, it really depends on what OBD codes are being set. Typical emissions codes like P0440( evap leak) are not going to hurt run-ability. But if it is a code like P0441(HO2 circuit short or lack of switching), you will see a change in the way the car responds with fuel comsumption. $3.50+ a gallon, I would not wait too long.

go to a large auto parts store and have them scan the codes, this is a free service. Advance Auto is the one I have used.
