2001 Taurus 3.0 24V drives for about 10 miles and won't move. shut car off and wait a few minutes then it drives again.

is it a fuel problem or a sparky-spark problem...you recon?

ignition relay...or fuel pump relay....I'm going to go ahead and suspect a BAD ground condition from a corroded main ground....the 1/0 battery cable always takes on corrosion as it is conducting 300 or more cold cranking amps through a spot as big as a dime....well again and again over several years ends up bein' a slug of semiconductor...which is where we're at, I believe....poor alternator tries to keep up with a really really old battery (older than five years) combined with the compromised body ground and chassis ground (which supplies 12 volts to the fuel pump relay....and the ignition/start relay) is making these relays quit for lack of good voltage...leaving you stranded...your poor alternator cannot keep up with your OLD battery and dodgy ground and less than 12 volts supplied to either of these relays causes them to "cut out" leavin' you in a worried state, until the "memory" effect (of what's left of your battery) is sufficient to power these relays....either one~

...so when you get your new battery, be sure to clean this corrosion off down to the metal...so we can pull the necessary amperage for the starter yet be supplyin' the needs of your operational relays~...okay....got it?
