What’s missing on the motor?

I noticed this what looks like a thermostat
housing or where the thermostat would bolt
on. It’s obviously missing something but I
don’t know what and I’m trying to get my
Boo’s car back on the road after she crashed
it last December. She loves this car and I love
her so I want to do this for her and make her
feel special and put a smile on that gorgeous
face of hers.
