Can I swap two different makes of cars transmissions?

This isn't the 1950's, back when you could swap parts between different car makers. Nowadays you can't swap between different models, maybe not even between different years of the same model, let alone different makers.

Back then it still was difficult to swap transmissions. Even then it took adapters to swap transmissions from brand to brand. Most people swapped the engine and transmission together.

I'm still sore from an attempted Mustang to Ford Fairlane swap ... it was soo close I tried to squeeze it in ... than the pressure plate froze when the pilot bushing overheated and blew the rear main seal .. it was not a pretty picture
