Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Okay so i have a 2000 ford escort zx2. For the past
year my car is acting like its going to over heat. I
can drive for about fifteen minites before it will
creep above the half way mark, but it never goes
into the red. I always make sure i have the right
fluids in it and the thermostat and radiator is
brand new. And if i pull over and shut my car off
for about five minutes and turn it back on its back
at the half way mark??

you need to know what thermostat you have like 185 or 195 that is the temp. youry car has got to reach befor the thermostat will open once you know that than just see when you temp gauge drops and see if it is close to that temp now it wont by exactly on 185 or 195 but close within 10 to 20 deg.

It may be that the cooling fans on the radiator are not working. They should be turning on and off when the engine is at its operating temp. After turning off the car for 5 min. the temp gauge would show the engine warmer. It is just the coolant in the block absorbing the heat from the cylinders. Once you start the vehicle the water pump circulates the coolant threw the radiator to cool down.
