decelerates suddently while coasting

Asked by GuruHSLG Apr 20, 2017 at 11:26 AM about the 2016 Hyundai Elantra GL FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Brand new Elantra.  When I'm nearing a red light, I like to coast to save gas.  But at around 32km/h it suddenly decelerates VERY noticeably, and the RPMs jump. Its like the brakes are being applied, but they aren't.  Sometimes happens at around 40 km/h too. Very noticeable. Everyone in car can feel it.

Sounds like the transmission is just down shifting, but shouldn't be that noticeable. More than likely has something to do with a shift solenoid. This being a new car, you should have it looked at by the dealer.
