I have a 2002 Sonata and have had the air bag light fixed once. It came on again 6 months later and has been on ever since. Does this light mean that none of the airbags will work?

More than likely it is just a sensor,on one of the seat,s,and should not affect the other,s,and may not even affect that one.
Anytime the airbag light is illuminated on a Hyundai, the whole airbag system is disabled. You must correct the cause of the warning light for the system to operate.
Agree. My mechanic told me the same for my 2006 sonata. All airbags are disabled and the $5 sensor is in the passenger seat. The problem is the entire seat with the sensor needs to be replaced at a cost of several hundred dollars. Not good or fair to owners.
I've seen the correction being only one thing if the code(s) are high resistance on lf or rf side air bag. Unfortunately there are technicians that try to clean the side air bag contacts in the connectors under the two front seats. This will keep the light off for a while but in maybe 3 months, 6 months or a year, it always comes back on. The only correction is to replace the air bag harness. It runs from under the dash, side air bags, front air bags, mpact sensors and air bag module. It's a very large harness and is pricey. Guessing about $800.00 plus labor. Sorry for bad news. If you are the original owner you can call Hyundai Motor America and ask them if they can help you out. Tell them you're a loyal Hyundai owner and see what they say. It never hurts to ask. 800-633-5151
