Tom is right could be anything but here are a few general maintenance things you can try first. Check air filter and clean throttle body clean or replace Idle Air Control valve or Mass Air Flow sensor depending on which one is on your vehicle. Also change fuel filter if have not done so in a while and add some fuel injector cleaner to gas tank.
