air conditioner in 2008 yukon litterally blew up ( sounded like a gun shot)

sitting , idleing at a walmart in Florida, with air on waiting for family, - heard
a huge bang and water vapour escaped in a cloud for 30 seconds.
this truck has a front and back air con , the back one stopped working 3
years ago only used front, after every one ducked , achap came over and
said its your air conditioner, no freon smell just water dripping under truck
any ideas

Sounds like the high pressure line parted ,, but you should have smelled freon big time ... I know this may sound dumb but did you turn the AC back on with the hood open? No doubt if all the freon is gone the clutch won't engage but you said that you didn't smell freon .. The water was no doubt condensate
