Can a bad BTS cause engine overheating in my 98 Jeep Cherokee?

Getting a P1493 error code with diagnostics, indicating a bad battery temperature sensor:  can this cause engine overheating?  My heater core is also leaking at the back wall of the engine compartment.  Leak stop fluids don't last long.  Which to do first?

No, The battery temp sensor will not cause overheating. More than likely, low coolant levels or a clogged radiator are causing the overheating. You have to fix the leak first.
