My 2006 Lincoln navigator elite engine light came on this morning. What should I check first?

Get the codes read so you know what the problem is. You can buy a code reader or have it read by a mechanic or possibly at an auto parts store.

Take to auto parts store for a free code reading, but DO NOT rely on the auto parts store for a proper diagnosis of the problem. Many times those $8.00 per hour kids are wrong and don't have a clue. Post the codes here on the forum and someone might be able to help you. The other option is take it to a Ford or Lincoln dealer.
