Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello, I have a 1998 ford escort zx2 with a manuel transmission . Over the
45 days I VERY loud thumping/rubbing noisahas progressively worse.  I
have ruled out ball joint s, wheel bearings and tires definitely. My
mechanic rotated my tires and noticed my drivers side rear drum brake
waslocked up apparently due to my emergency brake. He was ab le to
unlock it quite easily, hesee ms to think that a VERY VERY theOUD
thumping/rubbing coming from the front could be due to that? Also the
thumping/rubbing is ALWAYS insy nc with however fast the vehicle is
going. Any and all advice would be sincerely appreciated ! Thank you.

Well, "in sync" with vehicle speed (versus in-sync with engine RPM) is a pretty good indicator the trouble is with the wheel assembly or tire. No point in guessing what's wrong, get in there and disassemble it and find it. You already had one hung brake, front brake may be hung as well, could be a bad caliper. I don't know what process you used to rule out ball joints and hub bearing but everything needs to be gone through and any suspect component replaced.

Replied to your message, also suggested to inspect CV axles.
