My gear shift in my 1998 Ford
Explorer ( Eddie Bauer) something
snapped inside. My suv is stuck in
reverse and I don't know what to do.
I cannot take my key out of the
ignition. I put the E Brake and left it.

When you say "snapped" it sounds like the linkage from the lever to the tranny broke. If that is the problem it can be manually shifted into park by dosconnecting the linkage and moving the lever on the tranny to the proper position. Surf the net, you'll find a video. procedure to long to post.
