Front end shaking

Asked by GuruCN566 Feb 24, 2019 at 02:11 PM about the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

What could be the problem. I don't think it's the motor
mounts. When on the freeway or just driving it "shudders".
feels like the front end moves a bit. This happens when I
step on the gas and accelerate. Any ideas would be helpful.

I have a similar condition with my 2006 V8 AWD Mountaineer. Turns out mine is transmission related. The stutter occurred when the trans fought itself trying to decide if it wanted to be in 5th or OD when I was running between 45 and 50 mph and trying to accelerate. I now keep the OD off when driving this speed and turn it back on when I push 55 to 60. Problem has not resurfaced when I do this.

Taver91 thanks for the response. I'm not sure that my issue is the same. It might be the front differential..
