Does a 1992 eclipse have a chip in the key

NO! Diamond star motors, which is Mitsubishi, was bought out {controlling interest} by Chrysler corp, now DAIMLER/CHRYSLER. As a 17 year Chrysler gold tech, I can tell you that Chips were not installed in the keys until about 96, Look at the key" if it is thin, usually black, No chip, As chips were installed in later years, the chip keys are always grey and about 1/4" thick. This is part of the factory installed anti-theft system, which the insurance companies lobbied for. Hope this helps, If not, Call your local Mitsubishi dealer, and ask to speak to the tech in service who has been ther the longest.
