I was driving along up a driveway and my truck just died. A local mechanic thought it was the timing belt, but the cover was removed and the belt seems fine. Any other suggestions??

how do you know the belt was just fine? there is a tensioner there that may be going loose and cause a tooth to jump...which you couldn't tell unless you lined up the marks...check your timing belt tensioner~
