2005 Pontiac Sunfire

Asked by dwade Jan 16, 2012 at 03:17 PM about the 2005 Pontiac Sunfire Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My low beam headlights are dimmer than normal even after replacing the bulbs! I've had it to the garage to be checked but they say they can't find anything wrong. They've even switched out the entire headlight section to test and see if anything else was wrong and it wasn't! The high beams work fine...it's only the low beams. They are approx. the same brightness as my drive lights are!!  They weren't always like this, it just started a few weeks ago.

Another thing you could consider doing would be upgrading the power and ground cables on the vehicle. If you have any aftermarket electronics installed (CD player, Amp/Subs, etc.), they could be creating excessive draw on the battery. Upgrading the OEM wires will allow more current to flow and lessen the amount of strain on the electrical system. As mentioned before, bulb quality is also a big factor. As a side note, I would highly recommend buying one of the headlight buffing kits that you can use with a cordless drill. They work wonders as far as resurfacing your headlight to a crystal-clear finish.
