Asked by memom247 Jan 06, 2014 at 09:15 AM about the 2000 Pontiac Bonneville SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It is -12 outside and my car will not start, the lights come on and it acts like it wants to start but it won't.  I'm on day 2 of calling in to work and its suppose to be below zero for the rest of the week.

That's insanely cold and you must learn to deal with it- the cars don't like it and it's best to leave them alone until the temp warms up during the day or over the course of a few days- it's obvious that to get to work, take the authorities' advice and use mass transit- our ancestors used to walk- sorry, but cars are not superhuman- nor are we- it is a wake-up call as to how soft we have become

Tried a jump but it still wouldn't start so the tow guy suggested towing it to his shop so it could heat up in his garage. After about 5 hours in the garage it started. The gas tank was on half a tank so I filled it up and put heet in it, and it has been starting every morning since.

-12 is no problem at all for most vehicles, most can go to -30 before problems start accruing. but I have also had problems with my 2000 Pontiac Bonneville. Down to -10 it starts great and under that it says so way for whatever reason.
