Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I am trying to drop the steering column but
I can't find the screws. My key will turn to
the run position but it isn't engaging so I
think I need to replace my ignition switch.
Any advice is helpful

Jim...thanks for the help. I have dropped it but I am at a loss as to how to check the adjustment on the ignition switch. I can see the gears inside when I turn the key but I can't find a way to see further down the column. I have tried to pull the steering column out but it is hung up someplace. Do you have any idea what I am doing wrong besides not taking it to the shop to begin with :)
Pic of what I can see internally
Found what I believe is the spring loaded thing when it jumped out at me :) I will try the turn signal tomorrow. I had to stop before I lit it on fire tonight. Thank you for all your help!

Hey i am too trying to drop my steering column i have unbolted the two screws, it’s loose but i don’t think it’s dropped all the way, i can see my ignition switch but can’t access it.
So i kinda have the same if not worse problem i got a 1999 firebird coupe and it looks like some heavy guy was pushing on the wheel to get out and broke the adjustment for making it go up and down. I got a little flathead screwdriver to push/poke opposite side of the key. Theres a slider that moves out and i gotta push it in to grab the latch?pin, nub or whatever That controls the ignition cycles. If the wheel is bemt all the way down i can move the nub/latch thing with the screwdriver without the key geting it to think its being tured halfway and if i pull the nub towards me enough i can kick the starter on. My wheel is freeish up and down and kinda bends down to the 4/5 oclock area so im sure some heavy guy was using the steering wheel to get out and broke something. If i get the latch/nub hooked and lock it all the way up it works fine but occasionally shuts off the engine if i pull to the 4/5 oclock area... its dark now and ill try to upload pics sometime but im certain its from a 250+lbs guy using the wheel to pull himself out of the car. The owner before me only had it for 3 months and got tired of poking at it and didnt have the time to mess with it so he sold it cheap. I might be able to repair it if not i got a buddy with a 98 Camaro that hes parting out and ilm just take its entire steering collum .
