You did not mention if it's a 2.2L or a 2.4L. if it's the 2.2L then it will be a little more difficult to get to, if it's a 2.4L then it is very easy to remove and install. 2.2L will most likely take around 40 minutes 2.4L can take as little as a few minutes. I just changed mine on my 1998 2.4L and it took only a couple minutes. On the 2.2L it's located near the oil filter. Of the 2.4L, open the hood, locate the throttle body then follow it back about 4-5 inches and you'll see a sensor right by the fuel rail, that's the CMP. 2.2L instructions.... 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Raise the vehicle and support it with safety stands. 3. Remove the right hand tire assembly. 4. Unplug the sensor harness connector at the harness. 5. Unfasten the retaining bolt, then remove the sensor from the camshaft housing. To install: 6. Place the sensor into position. 7. Install the CMP sensor retaining bolt, then tighten to 88 inch lbs. (10Nm). 8. Attach the sensor harness connector. 9. Install the tire assembly and lower the vehicle. 10. Connect the negative battery cable. 2.4L instructions... 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Unplug the sensor harness connector at the sensor. 3. Unfasten the retaining bolt, then remove the sensor from the camshaft housing. To install: 4. Place the sensor into position. 5. Install the CMP sensor retaining bolt, then tighten to 88 inch lbs. (10Nm). 6. Attach the sensor harness connector. 7. Connect the negative battery cable. All information was taken from my Pontiac Sunfire/Chevy Cavalier Chilton's manual. I suggest buying one, they are about 20-25 dollars at any auto parts store and comes in very handy.
