Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I just purchased a 2004 Saturn Vue with 93000 miles on it and the mechanic checked the car with his computer and said it was the sensor in the catalytic converter. He said most likely the converter was okay but the sensor may be faulty. He turned it off but it came back on after a few days and stays on now. My question is can I turn the sensor off permanently? I don't want to just ignore it because something else may go wrong.

Have it read for codes, even if the check engine light is NOT on the computer will have stored information and codes. Discount auto stores will read codes for no fee. write them down. Likley, a HEGO issue (heat exhaust gas oxygen) sensor

I would just replace the sensor that the check engine light scan reading said. The check engine light came on for a reason so it must be bad and just clearing the code is not going to work just going to keep coming on until sensor is replaced. Also would get the converter checked to make sure it is not getting clogged up.
Maybe a can of Lucas sensor fix will do it? Well, maybe not. Likely an O2 sensor that is bad or slow. Get it scanned and post the code here.

If they had it I would definitely try it. Hey Bob you need to start thinking outside of the box.
Lol, soon will be trying your Lucas oil additive. I will report results when I change oil.

Had the computer read out checked for my 2004 Saturn Vue and the code is P0442. I don't have a manual but does anyone know what that specification means?
