Some cars have more than one egr sensor. Check if your does.

Make sure both lines are not clogged. I changed one once and it didn't go off and finally realized the line going to the intake manifold had becomed clogged from years of service. cleaned it with carb cleaner, had to remove the throttle body and bolted it all back together with the original EGR valve and everything worked great including improved performance and shifting even!

Delete you mean remove it and clog the hole? Maybe there is another way that you are talking about, but the engine is designed to run with this EGR valve so just clogging it is going to give you problems if the machine doesn't compensate and adjust to no EGR. I know with our 98 Taurus, the clogged EGR caused more than just a warning light. There was definetly shifting issues going on and even power loss due to it not being able to compensate. This might have been due to the age of the vehicle, while newer vehicles can auto compensate, but once I cleaned it out all was good including shifting.
