2026 Toyota RAV4: Price, Specs and Release Date

by Stephanie Wallcraft

Is the Toyota RAV4 getting a redesign? As of this writing, nothing has been officially confirmed by Toyota. However, given that the automaker last redesigned the RAV4 in 2018 for the 2019 model year, we think chances are very good we’ll get a first look at an updated RAV4 late in 2024 for deliveries in 2025 carrying the model year 2026.

This estimation is based on Toyota’s history of consistent six to seven-year product cycles for the RAV4, which is the best-selling SUV in Canada and Toyota’s most important SUV globally. There’s an outside chance we’ll need to wait a little longer and a new RAV4 will ship with model year 2027, but we feel this is unlikely.

Here's what we know so far about the 2026 Toyota RAV4 in Canada. Be sure to bookmark this page: we’ll update it as we receive more information.

2026 Toyota RAV4 styling

Retro styling is having a big moment. While absolutely nothing official has been released by Toyota and we don’t yet have official images of the next generation, we’ve seen some very sexy speculative renderings online of a RAV4 that’s reminiscent of the recently redesigned Toyota 4Runner. It would be on trend for Toyota to release a new RAV4 with a very upright and boxy look, perhaps with a thick body-coloured D-pillar and a retro grille. On the other hand, Toyota has no success to strive for but its own here, so the brand may choose to stick with what’s already working in its top-selling SUV.

2026 Toyota RAV4 interior design and practicality

Again, we have nothing official to go on as of this writing. But given what we’ve seen in other recent Toyota redesigns, we expect the new RAV4 will offer a larger infotainment screen with better connectivity, a fully digital instrument cluster, and possibly a shift-by-wire system for the transmission.

Will the 2026 Toyota RAV4 be hybrid only?

We expect the next-generation RAV4’s hybrid versions to run off the automaker’s new fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System. This latest version of Toyota’s hybrid powertrain has already launched in the 2025 Toyota Camry—with combined power specs of 225 horsepower with front-wheel drive (FWD) and 232 hp with all-wheel drive (AWD)—and in the 2025 Lexus UX 300h. Both these models are hybrid-only and the RAV4 shares the TNGA-K platform with the Camry, which leads us to believe there’s a chance the 2026 Toyota RAV4 could be hybrid-only as well. On the other hand, the RAV4 is traditionally an affordable family car, so this may compel Toyota to retain a rental-spec gas-only version for a while longer.

Will the next-generation Toyota RAV4 be built in Canada?

As of this writing, nothing has been confirmed by Toyota. We do know Toyota is very happy with output from its Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada’s assembly plant in Cambridge, Ontario, where the RAV4 is currently built. We therefore have no reason to believe production will be shifted away from that facility when a next-generation RAV4 launches.

2026 Toyota RAV4 in Canada price and release date

Toyota isn’t giving us anything to work with, so this is purely speculation. But we feel we could see the new 2026 Toyota RAV4 revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2024—or possibly earlier if Toyota decides to do its own thing with this launch—with media drives taking place early next year and deliveries beginning early to mid 2025. If a gas version is retained, the entry-level price point should be more or less in line with the current-generation RAV4, which starts at $36,215 in Canada including fees. If the RAV4 goes hybrid-only, expect to see a bump of several thousand dollars in its base price, though Toyota will surely need to keep the cost of entry below $40,000 to remain competitive.
