Check engine light

Asked by Kamilibra Jul 09, 2017 at 12:04 PM about the 2010 Pontiac G6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My check engine light came on so I had it read at
an auto zone by a machine they plug in and it read
P0010 which is Camshaft Position (CMP) Actuator
Solenoid Control Circut. Does anyone know what
this means? Possibly how it can be fixed or any
information would be great. Thanks.

Take the engine cover off. Left hand side toward the back of the motor are two solenoids. One has a gray top the other has a black top. Engraved in the motor next to them shoud say IN for one and EXH for the other. The intake one needs to be replaced. Take the conector off the top and the use a 10mm socket to take out the bolt holding it in place. Wiggle the solenoid back and forth and work it up and out of the hole it sits in. Put the new one in using the opposite steps. Dab a little oil on the o-rings on the new one so it will slide in. You can get these at your local parts store or order them online. They are pretty cheap so I replaced the exhaust one at the same time. The picture is the Intake side that throws the P0010 code.
