2000 grand marquis

Changed the transmission filter now it doesn't go
into higher gears.. filter was a push on and didn't
seam like a real tight fit could it have fallen out and
caused this problem

doubt it,, you changed fluid for a reason to begin with and if it was because it was acting up ,its the worn front pump ,and the old rule of thumb is an old trans. is worse with fresh fluid cause now you flushed the dirt holding the clutches, or whats left of them close together for that last few miles

If it fell out then it would suck air and cause problems. I had this happen to a F150 of mine.
