jeep will not start

It could be the ignition switch itself. Try using a remote starting switch at the solenoid.

Pull tilt wheel all the way down, try to start. next.Turn key to crank position and hold it there. Then wiggle gear shifter. Or try to start in neutral. If it still wont start, Set parking brake and move gear shifter to rev. Now ck to see if back up lights work. This will verify that the neutral saftey switch is plugged in. If all ok. then you need to pull cover off steering colom, 3 #20 torx screws. and see if connector is loose at ign. switch or melted.

We just had this problem. We poped out push botton and used key. Didnt want to spend hundreds or even spend 200 on a diagnosis. Two weeks later my husband accidently hit the remote starter on key and car stayed running, it would shut down immediately before. So we again put the pushbotton back in and it has worked great for two weeks. We believe the computer reset itself and now accepts everything. Hope this saves you over a thousand dollars like it did us.

For mevit was the fuel pump. A $2000 problem mostly due to the labor of getting to the thing.

No power from the key to the fuse box. No dings we have changed the ignition every way you can. Bought all the kits. But nothing. However when I turn the key there is a loud clicking coming out of my fuse and relay box. I live out of town and need to try to troubleshoot this please help me

Ground issues replaced all finally tested main original ground!! Problem solved

So I went to start my 2015 jeep cherokee this morning and everything came on but car wouldn't start the 3rd time i did it the car started and ran just fine can anyone give me any ideas on what this might be

That happened to me . It was low oil pressure the jeep has a fail safe if oil is low. Judt happened to me again after a few months I have to check oil to see if it is low.

Appreciate this is an old question but I've just had the same fault with my 2014 Jeep Compass. I'm intrigued by what thejeepdoctor said as I've worked out that when the problem occurs, (i.e. turn the ignition key and the starter doesn't turn over, no noise, nothing as if it thinks the clutch isn't depressed), if I wiggle the gear shift, (to the point of almost putting it in gear - clutch still down and key fully turned), the engine suddenly starts! So, my question is obviously, what does thejeepdoctor think it is, because you hit the nail on the head with the workaround!

I have an 86 model Jeep After the ignition on Engine check light is not turned on And the engine is not even starting.All its fuses are fine too

No answer in particular , just an FYI as sometimes if turning the key doesn't work, I put it in Neutral and start this way. Works for me

My 2014 Jeep Cherokee does not respond to the fob. The lights come on when I open the door and everything looks like it should, however there is no repose to the fog. It will not open the doo, start the car or open the back end. I replaced the battery in the fob. Anyone have an idea before I tow it to a mechanic?

If its cranking but no start, could be M25 (20A) fuse for fuel pump. Try to listen underneath the car, by the fuel tank with someone turning on the key. Do you hear the pump kicking on? Is it stuck on when turning off the key?? May be a faulty TIPM. There is a recall. Try bypassing the M25 fuse. See if this works! Or if it makes "winding" noise like trying to start or a small "click", with good power but no start, or no noise at all but good power- may be bad starter. If newer Hemi, finding the starter could be tricky. Regardless, always check for good power first! Hope this helps!!

I have the same issue with my 2004 Jeep grande Cherokee. I get a ticking noise. However I usually have this problem after it has been running or the car is hot. For whatever reason when I pump the break and gas pump it eventually starts. If that doesn't work I let the car sit for about a half hour at most and it will start up.

There is a power plug under steering column to the left. If it is missing or not in all the way it will not let you start the engine. You will have power to everything, but cant start the engine. 2011 jeep grand Cherokee
