2002 Toyota Camry

Asked by jim_lahey151 Jul 03, 2019 at 06:56 PM about the 2002 Toyota Camry LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2002 Toyota Camry with about 250,000 miles started sputtering a little at a red
light, immediately followed by a solid check engine light and serious loss in
power (barely made it up the hill). The car will still crank but the engine shakes
violently and sounds god awful.

I need the trouble codes to diagnose the problem. When was the last time you did a tuneup?

My OBD2 scanner did not return any codes, the last time i took it to the mechanic was about 6 months ago, they replaced the head gasket cover (supposedly a leak) and also the serpantine belt.

So I was going to change the sparkplugs but I didn't have a long enough wrench. However, there was oil down in the tubes that hold the sparkplugs, could that be the problem?
