Brakes

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have 1998 Ford F-150 with 125,000
Miles. Last night, it sounded like someone
had thrown a large rock into the truck.
Later, as I applied my breaks, I noticed
they had begun to make a raspy, scraping
sound. Can’t figure out what has
happened? I do know I need the ball joint
or tie rod endsreplaced.

there is a reason why cars at car shows look GREAT!! it's because they are off of the road! when you are out on highway, there are many little things moving around ( rock, pebble, dirt , and anything else that can smack into the under side of any vehicle ( semi truck do not help this theory). I have TONS of little paint dents from just little things that tires tend to push up off the ground((. you never know what the last rock hit or smacked into. Cars are a world of mystery, it seems. good luck
Pull the tires off and check the brakes, rotors, calipers for damage.
Check caliper mounting bolts had one wiggle out scraped the inside of my rim brakes still worked but put a hole in the inside of the rim
