Don't do it. The newer engine would be a 3 valve and yours is 2. The cost and trouble to switch over the engine and all the controls would not be worth it and then you would probably have a transmission incompatibility issue.
The engine controls will not be compatible. The newer engine has variable cam timing in addition to an extra valve in each cylinder.
