Dodge Ram 1500

Asked by ColtonM97 Nov 21, 2018 at 04:07 PM about the 2002 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2002 Dodge Ram with the 4.7. Was
coming home from work and engine oil light came
on as I turned on my road. Pulled in my drive way
and had a load knock or slapping noises. Truck
over heated and the over flow for the coolant was
full and what looked like boiling. Truck will still start
up and run. No noise on start up but when warmed
up the slapping come back. Fixable or is she
done?

I have the skill and ability to do a rebuild. Tearing the motor down this weekend. Was just looking for a second opinion. Taking the front case off and valve covers and going to get a look at lifters and push rods. Not sure if I will get a chance to look at the pistons and cylinder walls but we will see.
