My Dad had older VW, maybe 1994 that used the Bosch distributor type gas fuel injection system that did the same thing. It was a "vapor lock" situation that occurred because gasoline in those fuel lines from the pump to the intake would boil out and flood the hot engine while parked. Not much you can do. But if it really refused to start, open the hood to release trapped engine heat and maybe spray water on those hot fuel lines. Bad design, Bosch trying to use a diesel type injector system on a gasoline car. The injector end is open and gas dribbles into the intake when hot, flooding it. Modern systems have electronic fuel injectors. Don't leak or boil out.
