Check engine light on

My car is hesitating to pull off when in gear.  Same problem when in reverse.  This just started but doesn't happen all the time.

does it happen when you are turning on asphalt road, thinking if you have the 4WD on but that is not suppose to be on unless you are driving on lose material, gravel, mud or snow. Check your transmission fluid and smell if it has burn smell you need to replace tranny fluid and filter. Or is the engine that is stalling then first check your battery and alternator.
