If when you turn the temp knob to cold and it clicks you are probably hearing a blend door motor going bad. They have plastic gears and will strip with very little resistance. Depending on what style system it has will determine if yo can do it yourself or if it's expensive and you need a shop to fix it for you. Is it single or dual zone a/c?

It is single. It clicks for about 20 seconds and quits. Or if I turn the knob toward hot a little bit it quits.

You are in luck, if as I suspect you have manual a/c controls the temp blend door motor is pretty easy to get to. It's kind of a tight spot but with a little dexterity and determination it can be reached without pulling the dash. Single control air has the temp door motor behind the radio stack, the labor should be no more than 3 hours through a shop and the part is about $50 or less. Are you planning on doing it yourself or having someone do it for you?

I might do it if it's not that difficult. Do you just pull the radio out and it's behind it?

Here is a pic of where it is, the trim and radio have to come out but it can be done with 1/4 inch tools. The bolts to the trim are 7mm and the motor is 8mm.

Does sound like the blend door actuator pictured above. Fortunately it appears, from the photo, it is easy to access. It is clicking now because a tooth on the plastic gear is broken. When two or three break next to each other the clicking will stop and the blend door will be stuck in the position it stops in until replaced. When installing the new one, follow the directions closely. Things will have to be lined up closely for the actuator to work properly.
