2001 Dodge intrepid

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car was making a very bad &
loud grinding noise underneath
also I couldn't go over 25 mph
literally the car would not go over
that it would really start grinding
terribly when I got up to 25 mph
like the whole bottom of the car
was just going to fall out ☹️
And like something metal was
hung under the car & being
dragged ☹️ Also about a year
or year-and-a-half ago I got the
right side wheel bearing fixed but
that wasn't what it was doing this
time it was much worse so could
it possibly be the left side wheel
bearing this time? Lol I definitely
don't know much about vehicles
at least not when it comes to
fixing 1 anyways lol my dad
always did that cuz he was
incredible with working on
vehicles and fixing up old cars
but he passed away a few years
ago:(

Did this noise just all of a sudden happen? or did it get louder over time?...I assume the terrible noise you describe is coming from the front?.. does the noise change when you step on the brakes?. have someone you know that has some automobile knowledge help you first of all... jack up the front of the car, ( put jack stands under it.....SAFETY.....SAFETY first)DO NOT DO ANY OF THIS WITH THE CAR RUNNING!!!!... with the front wheels off the ground and the car in neutral, rotate the wheels by hand, you may be able to at least get an idea if it is coming from the front... very well could be bearing, rotor, broken caliper bracket could be many things.....at least start by trying to identify where the noise may be coming from...by the way you are describing how bad and loud this noise is.....you and your helper should be able to find what is making the noise, or at least isolate where it is coming from...fairly quickly.....
