Check Engine Light

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My check engine light just came on yesterday. I want to get
it checked out but I'm new to my area and don't know
anyone within 200 miles. I don't want to be taken
advantage of because I'm a woman. I'm debating driving
home to Chicago and going to my own mechanic because I
trust him. The problem: Chicago is 482 miles away. Should
I risk driving all the way there? Or will I end up stranded on
the side of the road?

Call auto parts stores and ask if they can put an analalyzer on or car and pull codes and tell u what they mean, a lot do it for free (auto zone, etc.) Start there.

O & by the way don't chance driving bac to Chicago...u never know wat could happen if u don't know wat it is!
