2000 Ford Taurus
I was out of town when my car started to overheat. I
noticed the engine cooling fan had stopped so I checked
the fuses and one was bad, so I swapped it from another
component not needed. It cooled for almost an hour and I
filled the resinous with water and It started working fine
and I made it home. The next day it was overheating again
and the fan not blowing, I bought a new fuse and still
nothing. But that day while in gear pulled up to a light the
engine had a very rough idle , and the temp gauge would
go up , but once in drive, the gauge would go down and
drive perfect like normal. For two days it did this till the
resevoir was low enough I bought and put in 50/50
coolant. In those two days I had diagnostics done, it read
a cylinder one misfire and the engine light essentially
came on. And at the next point any time in gear at idle the
engine light would flash. But in higher speeds would stop
flashing. However Once I put real coolant in, it no longer
had a rough idle, drove perfect like before any of this
happened and then engine light went off all together. As if
the car never had any problems. It still does not have the
new cooling fan on, but I'm going home at this point till
the fan gets put on the next day. So the next day on my
way to have the fan put on, I notice the temp guaze slowly
rising and going back down, then up again, never getting
more then 3/4 to the red zone, I'm not running the air
either, but doing 60 on the highway, I start to lose power,
the car stalls out and I make it to the emergency lane. No
smoke of any kind came from under the hood, just stalled.
I pop the hood and there is no coolant in the resevoir, and
now the car won't crank or start. Or turn over however the
term goes. It only clicks. But I have poem wet to the rest
of the car. Dash lights, headlights. It just won't crank.
Being on the down side of the highway I put it in nuetral
and coasted it down over an on ramp and two one way
lanes and fortunate enough into the parking lot of a
mechanic shop. But still it sits there not cranking or
starting. I spent the night last night with the car trying
anything I could to find a solution, even having someone
pick me up a used starter , but I didn't have the proper
socket to take the old one off. Then I started looking into
fuses. PCR, starter relay. Am I in the right direction, or has
my motor just completely seized up? I'm not ignorant to
cars , but I'm definitely no mechanic. But they don't call
fords built tough for nothing. I just bought his car for cash
about 3-4 weeks ago after my Hemi was flooded in
Houston rain. I paid 1500$ and it only had 96 thousand
miles on it. Has an 04 battery in it still, and ran
exceptionally well for its age, until the fan went out. As in I
have had zero problems with it until now. I don't have
money to buy another car, and very little for repairs. My
house was flooded too and extra cash lately just seems
like a fairytale. I need some advice, badly. Or maybe
someone that can help that is more mechanically inclined
than myself that doesn't work for 75$ an hour. I'm running
out of options.
