The Nissan Murano two-row midsize SUV, one of the more style-forward products in the brand’s line-up, was last redesigned for the 2015 model year. In other words, it’s starting to get on in age, which had led to speculation about what might become of this well-liked nameplate. Answers emerged when spy shots of a camouflaged mid-size Nissan SUV — ostensibly the 2025 Nissan Murano — were captured in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in the late spring of 2024. We now know that a) there will almost certainly be a next-generation Murano, and b) it won’t be an EV.

2025 Nissan Murano styling
As of this writing, we have not yet seen an official preview of the 2025 Nissan Murano (the image above is of the 2023 model). However, we can infer a few things from the spy shots. The V-Motion grille appears to be dead, replaced by a horizontally oriented grille reminiscent of early 2000s Nissans. (Look to the refreshed 2024 Nissan Rogue for hints of what may be to come on the Murano.)
Although it’s hard to tell from the imagery that’s out there, it looks as though the headlights and taillights have been thinned and flattened, and the floating roof motif has been replaced by a sweeping roof line detail, likely in chrome. It will be interesting to see true these observations are to the final version when it’s finally shown to the public.
2025 Nissan Murano interior design and practicality
We don’t yet know much about the interior of the 2025 Nissan Murano since no official visuals have been released. However, there is a spy shot online showing a single-pane combination for the digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen, a setup that is increasingly becoming standard across the industry.
These will likely be a pair of 12.3-inch screens, which would be in line with the Murano’s competition. Nissan is moving to the Google Built-in platform for its infotainment systems, so we expect to see that here as well. There are still a handful of button-based climate controls in the prototype seen in spy shots. Further observations will need to wait for the official announcement.
2025 Nissan Murano engines, motors and drive
One especially interesting point about the 2025 Nissan Murano spy photography is that there are visible exhaust fumes. This gives away that the next-generation Murano will have an internal combustion engine as opposed to the widely speculated electric platform. Since the Murano shares so much in common with the Nissan Pathfinder, we think it’s likely these vehicles will continue to share a 3.5-litre V6 engine. It’s possible the Murano will drop the continuously variable transmission (CVT) and benefit from the same change to a nine-speed automatic transmission that has improved performance in the Pathfinder.
On the other hand, it's also possible Nissan will pull a VC-Turbo or another smaller displacement engine from its parts bin for the next-generation Murano, or it could even employ some method of hybrid electrification. Either way, we expect all-wheel drive (AWD) will continue to be standard equipment in Canada.
2025 Nissan Murano price and release date
We expect the 2025 Nissan Murano to continue its position as a mid-premium SUV in Nissan’s line-up with SV, SL, and Platinum trim levels. The 2024 edition of the Nissan Murano is priced from $45,635 to $52,085 in Canada, so the next-generation 2025 Murano may jump slightly in price but will likely be in the same neighbourhood. A public reveal should take place sometime in the second half of 2024 with launch and deliveries beginning in early 2025.
