If the cable broke right at the release handle you might be able to pull on it with pliers to get it open. However, if the cable is totally broken you have to find and release the catches manually. The releases are on both sides of the inside of the hood, most likely behind/inside (towards the grille) of the headlights. You might have to remove the grille to get to these levers unless you can figure out another way, such as using a coat hanger. Each lever should be pulled toward the center of the car. If you are having trouble figuring it out look at another car and check out the inside of the hood so you can see what you are dealing with. Good luck.
