you know how to use this site...so why cant you search for this info?? heres everything you want to know. How Do I Know What Size El Camino Tank I Have? To find out if a 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987 El Camino has a 17 or 22 gallon tank, check the option sticker located in the glove box. A 22 gallon equipped El Camino will be listed with N23 option. A17 gallon car will not list a code as it is considered standard equipment. If the sticker is damaged or lost, the only other way to tell the difference is to fill an empty tank and count how many gallons it takes. Since 22 & 17 gallon tanks share the same outside dimension, simply measuring the outside of the tank will not show the actual inside capacity.
