How to grease the gearbox and shifter cables on my 1990 Chevy Cavalier 5 Speed?

Asked by Groovette1985 Jan 24, 2013 at 06:13 PM about the 1990 Chevrolet Cavalier

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I broke the shifter cable a few months back I replaced it. Now when it's cold outside its hard to change gears. When the car warms up and thaws out I can change gears with no problems. What do I need to do to fix the problem, so it's not so hard to get going in the mornings.

At the end of the shift cable is a bunch of mechanical arms on the back side of the tranny. Lube everything that moves with engine oil. You can work the mechanisms by hand once they are loose.---- My transmission would no go into first when cold. I finished up my shifter lube by coating everything with wheel bearing grease.
