2009 A4 OIL Burning

I've been thinking of buying a really nice 2009 A4 at a local dealership.  While doing a little internet researching on the Audi (I've only owned VW's) I read that the 08, 09 & 10 A4's are oil burners.  The consumer reports/complaints were fairly thorough and there were lots of owners who told stories of using a quart of oil after 3,000 to 4,000 miles.   This shouts  "ENGINE PROBLEM" to me but, I don't know...  
  Does anyone know about oil burning in the A4's or maybe have an A4 with an oil burning issue... and is it a normal feature for the car?  I'm old-school when it comes to things like this... if it burns oil... something's gone wrong somewhere.

Even if it's normal, do you want to add oil month after month???

the dealership will do a oil comsumption test for free. if it fails, they can either replace your piston rings or replace the whole engine.
