Starting a 1982 GMC 6.2L Diesel that has been sitting for several years

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I need tips on how to start a 6.2L diesel engine that has been sitting for
several years. Both batteries were bad and I have a single one in there now
and hook up another vehicle to it with jumper cables(good ones). It turns over
fine steadily that way. Not sure how to operate the glow plugs, or check if they
are working. The fuel filter in the engine compartment is full.

Remove the old fuel, some say diesel will not gum, but it will grow mold. Add new fuel, new batteries change the fuel filter and prime the glow plug. https://www.google.com/url? sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv %3DApAhgWHW_dU&ved=0ahUKEwjU0aT7prDJAhXC6SYKHWF nAcEQtwIIKTAD&usg=AFQjCNGz- F9Bai2n0ok_wvwdZCRrKpOtRg
