What type of antifreeze? I always thought they used a specific type and they told me they topped off all the fluids?! Thanks

Your car is a 2009, it's pretty new by today's standards, at least as far as I'm concerned. We have a 2009 Toyota and 2010 Subaru. Also, your system is a closed system and should not need topping off, as you put it. Maybe topping off the windshield wiper fluid or even some engine oil, yes, any car can use oil. But, if you find that you need to constantly add antifreeze, something is wrong and you need to check this out immediately. It's summer and it's hot. You can overheat quickly and it can be extremely damaging, you're not going to like it either. So, I would advise you to take your car to your mechanic and have them check your cooling system. Now, to answer your original question about special antifreeze, my 2010 Subaru takes a special coolant proprietor to Subaru and is only supposed to be changed at 105,000 miles. See how long that lasts, that's a long time. So, open up your owner's manual and see what it says for your car. Hope that the and answers your question.
Refer to the owner's manual. If you do not have one get one at www.helminc.com
My owners manual for 2009 MKS says use gold coolant. But sticker on coolant reservoir says specialty green coolant. The coolant in reservoir is green. Car was purchased from Lincoln dealer used. I have ordered some green coolant from Rock Auto that is listed for 2009 MKS.
