Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My local shop gave me a quote which included replacing the timing belt idler,
the timing belt tensioner adjuster, and the timing belt tensioner roller for about
$250 in extra parts.. Is this normal/necessary?

The cost for the timing belt and water pump replacement was about $600. The other items I mentioned adds $250 to that. Are the extra parts necessary?

your automobile may also require a auxiliary engine drive belt and pulleys, these may as well be changed because they will probably have to come off to get to the timing belt, they where probably changed when the timing belt was last renewed on your automobile. I would have them swapped for new parts, allow an extra $75 tops for parts and labour etc 10-4, drive on son!

if you decide not to change these parts remember the cost of a new engine is a lot more $$$ than the parts and labour to fit the cambelt water pump aux drive belts etc, 10-4, drive on son!
