radio turns itself on draining the battery
thought it was the battery so I replaced it. After replacement, found the radio was turning itself on with the car being off and the alarm armed. This was what was draining the battery. Pulled the fuse and everything is good again except I have no radio.
I'm having the exact same problem in an 07 focus and I'm keen to find a solution which allows me to have the radio back. Which fuse did you take out?
I took out fuse 5. I found out something I think might solve the entire problem. Will try it out this weekend. I will definitely post the answer. I have found so many people who have this problem and have taken it to a Ford Dealer and THEN THEY NEVER POST THE ANSWER! Infuriating. I will definitely post the answer.
Not as easy as I thought. I believe it is the accessory delay relay but I need to find out the part number for it. Called a Ford dealer and am still researching.
It is the accessory relay (NOT the accessory delay relay). On the 2004 Ford Escape, it is to the right of the fuses in the fuse box by the driver's side seat. I bought Standard V13081 RY612. It cost me $15.61 with tax. It's been three days and all is well so far.
Exact same problem...A possessed 2004 Ford Escape! Tried to remove the fuse for the radio and he whole car shut down. Anti theft? Nothing worked. Towed to the dealership and they want over $2000.to replace the Audio unit module??? I dont think so. So now without the fuse they said I would have no radio and cant use the key fob. What they didn't tell me is that none of the power door locks will work and no dome lights. i can't figure how to access the hatchback now and need to carry a walker. I feel Ford has really let us down.
2014 Ford escape. Radio turns itself on when I use the key fob to open the door. Won't go off unless I punch the radio button. Trying not to open the door and leave it in the garage, scared it will come on during the night and run the battery down. What to do?
Did anyone ever find a solution to this problem? I have a 2013 Ford Escape. The radio comes on and off all the time by itself all day and night. drains the battery .. Usually I can charge the battery and get a good month or two before it dies again. This time it died two mornings in a row. I was going to full the radio fuse but not sure after reading the earlier posts about how that shut down the entire car.
I have this problem with my 2002 Ford Focus. I just turn the radio off now when I turn the car off, otherwise it will just turn on at random times. Spooky

Hi, I'm also having this problem with a 2005 Ford Focus. A couple of times I have found radio/cd player on when car was parked and volume turned down to zero, despite turning it off before leaving the car. To check it, I made totally sure that I turned it off yesterday afternoon but my husband found it on with music blasting out late last night. I have been having trouble with key fob recently and have to use manual door lock to open door - could this be linked to radio problem as I usually lock it with central locking button?
I had this problem with my 2013 ford escape after coming out several mornings to a dead battery I had to pull the radio fuse.. I have no radio or no Bluetooth capability but at least I don't come out to a dead car anymore.
I haven't had a dead battery yet (thank goodness) but radio is supposed to turn itself off after an hour under normal circumstances - don't whether it is doing or how often it is actually switching itself on
To all, this is purely anecdotal but it fixed my 98 Mazda B2500 (Same as Ford Ranger) radio coming on randomly, key out, doors locked. This was a stripper with manual windows and locks. No alarm. But the GEM (Generic Electronics Module) has many factory-programmable features based on options. Typically, key off, remove key. Radio stays on and power windows operate till you OPEN the driver's door. But my dome light operated normally when door opened / closed. I did notice there was NO KEY IN IGNITION alarm chime (which comes from the GEM module activated by a small contact in the key cylinder. The car never knew that was a key in the ignition or that it had been removed. Occasionally, one beep might occur. I cleaned the ignition switch and got the key present alarm to work every time and ......NO MORE GHOST IN THE RADIO. I think overnight a change in temp might cause the open (key present) contact to make contact and the GEM turned the radio power back on. The accessory power relay is hard to find....I didn't find it. The dome light relay is under the dash directly below the glove box door hinge. I did put in a different relay just to check but that did not seem to make any difference. Stock one is back in and no overnight radio startup. My 2 cents.
I got the tip from a person experienced in radio repair that the reason the radio turns on is because it senses that a CD is being inserted. So the CD sensor's microswitch is malfunctioning and that's why the radio turns on by itself. So I now try to disassambling the switches and clean out.
2013 Explorer. Radio comes on when the car is off and locked, draining the battery . This started soon after buying an additional key fob; they were all (3) reprogramed. While driving, the radio will turn on and off on it's own. Dealer would not complete diagnosis without a new battery. Stay tuned. I'm fine with no radio and no Sync (it sucks); is this an option?
