I want even better gas mileage for my Acura

Asked by Will May 29, 2008 at 11:18 AM about the 1995 Acura Integra

Question type: Car Customization

I drive a 1995 Acura Integra LS, and I already get really good gas mileage, but I was wondering if I can improve it even more. I have a short-ram intake, and I previously had cat-back exhaust w/o a resonator. I got the muffler removed, and a stock muffler put back on for a much quieter ride. The cat-back piping is still there, and it is 2 1/2" piping. If I was to add headers, would my gas mileage improve because of the increased air flow, or would the small tip on the stock muffler make the increase in air flow negligible?

Negligible increase in gas mileage from putting headers in. Probably can't do much better than what you have.

you can put in more efficient spark plugs like pulsestar pulse plugs. very pricey, 25 a piece but it does increase your hp and fuel efficiency. second will be to put in 91 octane...not sure if it helps on older cars but going with 91 octane could be more expensive at the pump, but you'll get more mileage out of it. third will be really pushing it if you just have a stock car but you could get engine management('chip' as most people will call it) and get it tuned at a shop. this will increase hp and be much more fuel efficient.

don't beat on your car, drive slowly (when the engine is spinning faster more gas is used) so slow down and you will be good to go.

yes it would because it would have less air pressure on the back

Don't take the revs over 3000, install a very small exhaust, reduce the amount of air going into the engine, use effective spark-plugs and clean them regularly, remove all unnecessary weight (seats, trim, A/C, power-steering), drive with your windows up, take off your wing mirrors, give it a wax.... lol

While meeting minimum tread design standards to be "M+S" branded, the Exclaim UHP is designed to provide high levels of traction, response and control in dry conditions, along with superior hydroplaning resistance in wet conditions. We do not suggest Exclaim UHP tires be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice. The Exclaim UHP uses a 2nd generation, ultra high performance silica compound molded into a directional tread design that features wide, solid shoulder tread blocks and a high-tech contour to combine responsive handling with dry traction. Its Double-V directional tread pattern enhances wet performance. Together, the tread compound and design help sweep water away from between the tire’s contact patch and the road to improve wet grip (earning the highest “AA” UTQG Traction Rating) while reducing the possibility of hydroplaning. The tire’s internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced by spirally wound jointless nylon on top of polyester body plies to combine responsive handling and cornering stability with high-speed durability. Reviewer's Overall Rating: 9.2 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX Wagon More Tire Reviews for This Vehicle Buy/More Info General Exclaim UHP Miles driven on tires: 10,000 Location: Altus, OK Driving Condition: Mostly Highway Driving Style: Average 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful: Initial Review, 10,000 Miles on Tires July 28, 2008 I have gone through Dunlops, Falken Ziex, Kuhmo Ecsta, Toyo FZ4 & T1 Plus and Michelins and by far this tire blew them all away, especially in the Noise category, It is a very responsive tire with great tread wear and a stern sidewall (My fenders rub on sidewall when cornering hard and the fender never cut the sidewall unlike the Falkens & Toyo's) Surprisingly even though not rated for snow it handles great on light snow all the 2"s we had here in 07. The noise on these are barely audible, the falkens, Toyo and Kuhmo's are very loud and just deafening after awhile. The tires are going on 2yrs and i have more than half the treads on them. I definately am going to use this brand of tire again especially since it's german made. Domestic market on tires have sacrificed quality for price, in this case Generals match both.
