Stored 1962 Ford galaxie 500 xl for a year and gas evaporated out of tank. Refilled but still no gas in carb and filter seems dry so maybe fuel pump dried out too. Need replacement? It is a mechanical fuel pump. How does it operate if motor is not running?

If the pump is original type it's mechanical and if the fuel evaporated from the tank you might have the tank cleaned. The sock in the tank may need to be replaced as well.
Try a bit of gas directly in the mouth of the carb. If it starts for a few seconds that's enough to pump fuel in to bowl, make sure float is not stuck The pump is driven by a lever off of an off-center 'cam' that pushes the lever down and pumps, and does not operate with engine not running

What engine does your Galaxie have? If it is the 292, there is a bolt behind your timing chain cover which has a habit of coming loose. This will cause the lever to not operate. Check everything else first. I would even try a new fuel first before you start tearing the front of your engine apart. The fan, the water pump and the timing chain cover has to come off to get to the bolt. Take the bolt out, clean the bolt threads and the hole threads then put some Loctite on the threads. put it back in, and use a torque wrench if possible. Mine let loose on a back road, ten o'clock at night about 50 miles from home, lol.
