Importing an evo IV from Okinawa to the states

Asked by Anoram Sep 10, 2015 at 09:42 AM about the 1998 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution

Question type: General

I'm stationed in Okinawa right now
and got an Evo IV while I was here.
I'm trying to find out if I can import
my car back to the states and if so
how much it's going to end up
costing me in getting it legal in the
states for emissions and whatnot.

Unless you paid a lot for it ... you may want to sell it there because aside from shipping costs you may have it fail emissions and safety issues. I suspect the car already has a catalytic converter and of course that would probably be your largest cost if it didn't... Brakes, lights etc. may have different specs. Look at what you can sell it for there ... and what one would cost here.
