2004 Ford Taurus 6cycler new battery would start , New drive traine belt put on , some thing locked up broke belt changed it ?

Would  some  locked  up  to  break  belt  
oringal  belt . Starts  smell  some thing  
when belt truns  smokes ?

Check the pulleys and tensioners, A family member with the sable had this problem too. It was the big tensioner cost a bunch about $140 I think.

that $140 may have been belt and labor too I did not do the work for them they were on the road and had a shop do it,
