My MG starts on ether

Asked by Rivets Apr 11, 2016 at 09:11 AM about the 1977 MG MGB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

After rebuilding the carb on a '77 B after sitting for 3 years, the car runs, but will only start with ether. All kinds of fuel pressure, but I'm stumped.

Sounds like you didn't set the needle valve properly. Double check the setting.

Thanks. Be sure that you use a very light machine oil in the reservoir. I used to use gun oil but 3-in-1 might work well also. The shoulder on the needle should just touch the top of the jet when it is set right.
